deeJUMP is a full-featured and easy-to-use desktop GIS for presenting, creating and manipulating geodata. Compared to a lot of licensed-based products, deeJUMP is based on open standards and has no depencencies to proprietary formats. For many systems, time-consuming introductions and trainings are necessary -with deeJUMP, you can start directly.

deeJUMP is 100% Java-based and runs on Windows and Linux as well. deeJUMP wasis founded on the Java Unified Mapping Platform, a well-known Open Source Project for geospatial data processing. JUMP has been extended in regard to the Support of Web Map and Web Feature Serices by the deegree framework. It is the perfect desktop GIS for modern spatial data infrastructures.

E' un Gis commerciale che può però essere utilizzato (con alcune limitazioni sotto elencate) in modalità free come versione educational.

Principali caratteristiche:
  • vector-raster maps;
  • multiuser data editing;
  • import and export for MIF/MID (MapInfo), SHP (ArcView), DXF (AutoCAD), DBF (dBASE), CSV;
  • setting access permissions to data for different categories of users;
  • using tables of native DBMS or external DBMS (via ODBC);

GIS ObjectLand processes data organized as geoinformation database (GDB). Basic GDB components are maps, themes, tables, queries, external databases, layouts, users, and styles.
Caratteristiche:
  • creation of vector-raster maps with arbitrary structure of layers and feature types;
  • advanced tools for spatial data analysis;
  • creation of themes. Theme is a user presentation of a map;
  • control of displaying features depending on the chosen scale;
  • spatial data input and editing by assigning feature coordinates and also by interactive drawing with mouse or digitizer;
  • sewing of separate pages of an imported map into one unified continuous map;
  • copying, merging, and moving maps, layers, and feature types between different geoinformation databases;
  • creation of tables of arbitrary structure;
  • creation of queries. Query is a user presentation of table built by setting search and sorting conditions, joining tables, calculations and using reference tables;
  • copying, merging, and moving tables and queries between different geoinformation databases;
  • setting arbitrary links between spatial and table information;
  • getting information about the feature selected on the map;
  • searching for features on the map by linked records;
  • creation of filters. Filter is conditions of feature visualization depending on spatial properties of features and linked table data;
  • creation of layouts. Layout is an output form combining spatial, table information and presentation elements;
  • import and export of table and spatial information for widespread data formats;
  • support of style libraries containing fonts, map symbols, line styles, hatches and fill styles;
  • style editors for displaying styles;
  • setting for users the access permissions to components;
  • multiuser data editing;
  • using and editing tables of external database (via ODBC) as linked tables;
  • providing automation COM interfaces for user applications;
The noncommercial version has neither quantitative nor functional restrictions.
The noncommercial version has the following basic difference from the commercial version:
  • Whenever you browse or print a map, the “Noncommercial” label appears in one of fragment corners as an unobtrusive reminder about noncommercial property of the used version.
  • You should accept conditions of the Noncommercial License Agreement at installation;
  • The “Noncommercial version” text is presented in the caption of the main window and in the dialog “About ObjectLand”;
  • The noncommercial version cannot share GDB already opened by ObjectLand commercial version, and vice versa.

NRDB is a free gis tool for developing and distributing environmental databases. Its aim is to provide people in developing countries with a powerful yet simple tool to assist in the managing of their own resources.

Database
The Natural Resources Database is a spatial database. As well as storing data of type text or numbers you can also store point, polyline or polygon data.
The data structure of NRDB is hierarchical. This means that, for example, you can represent the administrative structure for your project area and calculate statistics based on this.
NRDB is also a time-series database, all data has a date associated with it. You can therefore observe changes over time in the data.
All data for the NRDB is stored in a single database file which can be redistributed with the software.
The database structure consists of features and attributes. You define these in the Data Dictionary. You can define a structure that meets the needs of your project. NRDB is therefore is applicable to a wide range of environmental / socio-economic projects in developing countries.


Maps
Maps consist of layers. Each layer contains a spatial attribute, e.g. an administrative boundary or the location of a village, and a text or numeric attribute to be used as a label e.g. the name of the village, or the number of households above the poverty threshold.
You can create thematic maps whereby the way the layer is displayed is determined by the values. For example you can make the fill colour or symbol size dependent on the value or you can use different colours to indicate houses with and without access to safe water.
You can also change other aspects of the appearance such as the type of the symbol and the positioning of labels.
NRDB includes automatic layout for printing of maps.
NRDB supports UTM and other transverse mercator projections. UTM projections can be selected simply by clicking on the world map.


Queries
As well as simple selection of features and attributes to display on maps, graphs and reports you can also use queries. These give you more control over what is displayed. With queries you can apply conditions, e.g. only select data for 2002 or display only households that are not formal settlers and are living in makeshift housing.
Queries can also be used for calculating statistics. You can for example count the number of households below the poverty threshold by municipality. You could also normalise this by dividing it by the number of households in each municipality.
In the same way that you can add layers to maps, by selecting values or using queries, you can also produce reports.
You can also output data as histograms, time-series graphs and pie charts.


Digitising, Import and Export
Data can be encoded directly into the NRDB software. You can also encode data into a spreadsheet and then import it into the NRDB software.
Spatial data can be imported from shapefiles or text files. NRDB also includes a utility for georeferencing image files scanned from paper maps. You can then digitise directly using the NRDB software.
You can export map layers to shape files.


Uses
NRDB software can assist with the following sorts of projects:
- Monitoring the effect of management and impacts on environmental resources.
- Collating information on environmental management and organisations, so as to coordinate effort more effectively.
- Storing socio-economic information spatially, so as to relate services to need.
- Production of thematic maps of environmental concerns to assist in advocacy work.
- As a tool for training in environmental management and spatial mapping.

SavGIS è un software di origine francese e la documentazione è tutta in tale lingua.
Il programma esiste però anche in versione in lingua inglese.

SavGIS est un système d'information géographique complet, conçu pour saisir, rassembler, gérer, analyser et cartographier des données géographiques d'origine très diverses : données d'enquêtes, de cartes thématiques, topographiques, de réseaux, d'images satellitales, de photographies aériennes, de modèles numériques de terrain... Le noyau de SavGIS est un système de gestion de base de données relationnelle étendu à la localisation, autour duquel sont développées de nombreuses fonctions pour l'analyse spatiale, la cartographie, la statistique, la télédétection, l'hydrologie, etc.

Le système SavGIS est un instrument complet pour l'analyse et la recherche en géographie, la planification urbaine, l'aménagement du territoire, l'étude et la gestion de l'environnement, l'épidémiologie spatiale et la géographie de la santé...

De faible coût pour une large diffusion, c'est un système ouvert dont les sources peuvent être disponibles pour ceux qui souhaiteraient participer au développement de nouvelles méthodes ou fonctionnalités en géomatique.

"As a hydrologist and geomorphologist, I was very discouraged by the lack of an affordable software package capable of advanced modeling of catchment processes. TAS is designed to meet the research needs of environmental modellers and managers while being simple enough to use in the classroom. Some geographic information systems (GIS) possess some of the capabilities required by hydrologists, geomorphologists, and other environmental researchers; however, these programs are usually prohibitively expensive. In addition, very few programs compile the number of functions available in TAS in one stand-alone package. Often, such programs rely on other GISs for visualization and standard spatial analysis.
